Carol Chaplin

Carol Ann Matuszewski Chaplin of Baton Rouge, LA died on March 21, 2023, and is in the arms of her loving God, with whom she had a lifelong personal relationship. Carol was born in Bay City, Michigan on June 15, 1937, to Edwin and Sophie (Madziar) Matuszewski. Carol graduated from St. Stanislaus Kostka on June 5, 1955, where she completed 13 years of Catholic education. Carol is survived by five of her children and spouses, Cathy (Jerry) Edwards, David Chaplin (Charlotte), Mark Bonsmann, Colette (Richard) Whitworth, Eddie Chaplin (Becky), Diane (Billy) Michelli; brother Jim Matuszewski, sister-in-law Betty Matuszewski; 15 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. Carol was a Girl Scout leader for Brownies, Juniors, and Cadets for 10 years, also trainer and neighborhood chairman for Audubon Girl Scout Council. Carol was actively involved in catechizing preschool, middle and high school for 35 years and RCIA process for adults for 15 years. She received certification to coordinate the high school of religion and RCIA by receiving a certificate of completion from Religious Studies Institute of Baton Rouge in 1990, Eucharistic minister, lector, usher, and small group facilitator. Carol retired from Baton Rouge Coca-Cola in January 2000 and from St. Pius X in May 2007. Carol joined St. Jean Vianney where she became actively involved as lector, Eucharistic minister, small group facilitator, and taking part in the adult formation classes offered since 2014. Carol was an avid LSU fan and she found great joy in all LSU sports. Carol dearly loved her family and cherished spending time with them. Carol was predeceased by her parents Edwin and Sophie Madziar Matuszewski, brothers Jerome and Theodore Matuszewski, daughter Bunnie Bonsmann, sister-in-law Nancy Weaver Matuszewski, son-in-law Kevin McDougall, nephew Mark Matuszewski, nieces Kasia, and Chloe Matuszewski.

Funeral services will take place on Saturday, March 25, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Jean Vianney Catholic Church, 16166 S. Harrell’s Ferry Road, Baton Rouge, LA with a rosary at 9:30 a.m., and visitation to follow until time of funeral at 11:00 a.m. Burial will take place at St. George Catholic Church Mausoleum, 7808 St. George Way, Baton Rouge, LA immediately following funeral. In lieu of flowers, you are encouraged to make a donation to St. Jean Vianney Catholic
