Michael James Mattison, age 74, a resident of Baton Rouge, fell asleep in the arms of his Lord on January 18, 2021. Born in Hammond, Louisiana, Michael graduated from Ponchatoula High School in 1964 and from Oregon Bible College in 1968, and was ordained as a minister in the Church of God. He pastored churches in East Oregon, Illinois; Blanchard, Michigan; Arlington, Texas; and Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Michael was also a consummate professional piano technician. He enjoyed studying and teaching the Bible, visiting the Great Smoky Mountains, and spending time with his children and seven grandchildren. He was passionate about helping and encouraging friends and family. Described by many as being gentle and kind, he touched the lives of all who knew him. Michael is survived by his former wife Charlotte Lawson, his children Mark Mattison (Rebecca), Daniel Mattison (Krista), and Michelle Griswold (Scott), and his grandchildren Gabriel, Gracie, Audrey, Graham, Scotty, Gayla, and Mattie, as well as his seven younger siblings and their families who were all dear to him, and a great number of friends both in south Louisiana and around the country. He is preceded in death by his parents Jim and Mary Helen Mattison, and his beloved sister-in-law Beth Mattison.
