Lionell Cannon

October 6, 1951 — July 28, 2022

On Thursday, July 28, 2022, Lionell Ray Cannon, Sr went to be with Jesus.  He was seventy years old.  He is free from pain and suffering.  All of his troubles have disappeared, and all of his tears have been wiped away.

He was born to Melvin Ray Cannon and Narvie Nell Wallace Cannon, on October 6, 1951.  He was raised and lived in Galvez, Louisiana, nearly his entire life.  He was known, throughout his life, for his talent with carpentry, and his great love for animals and gardening.

Before children came, he was drafted for the Vietnam War, and sent to Okinawa Japan, in the United States Army.  Then, came the kids, Heather Jolie Cannon Villenurve, Lionel Ray Cannon Jr, and Matthew Earl Cannon.  Later, the grandkids came, Laney Cline Bellow, Kimber Ann Villenurve, and his “MonkeyMonk,” Jolie Kel Villenurve.

Lionel is survived by his mother, Narvie; his sisters, Gloria Dean Cannon Barnes and Thais Rhea Cannon Wallace; his three kids and three grandkids; way too many nieces, nephews, and grands to count; an uncle, George “Bute” Cannon; three aunts, Sylvia Wells, Carol Jean Abbott [Bill], and Wanda Lane Rheams; a special brother-like cousin, Clark Stafford;  ex-son-in-laws, Troy Bellow and Danny Villenurve; ex-wives, Jo Anne May Cannon and Paulette Whisler Cannon, which have both taken great care of him in his last months and days.

He is preceded in death by his father, Melvin; grandparents, George “Dewey” Sr and Nola Roux Cannon, Earl, and Reatha Stafford Wallace; brothers-in-law, Emmett Sistrunk and Bobby Barnes; aunts, Gloria Dean Cannon and Joyce Cannon; uncles, Truvie Wells and Gary Rheams.

Pallbearers will be his sons, Lionel Ray Cannon, and Matthew Cannon; cousins, Clark Stafford, and Chad Cannon; and nephews, Donzie Hux, Emmett Simon, and Robbie Conrad.

Visitation will be held at Galvez Pentecostal Church, 15267 Joe Sevario Road, Gonzales, Louisiana, on Tuesday, August 2, 2022, from 4pm until the celebration of life and going home service at 6pm.  Burial will be Wednesday, August 3, 2022, at 9:00 a.m. at Galvez Pentecostal Church Cemetery.  Services will be performed by Reverend David Hairford and Reverend James May, with Erika Sistrunk Simon and Bro Russells giving the eulogy.
