Dorothy Lee Wall Cook of St. Amant, Louisiana went to meet her Lord and Savior on Saturday, September 4, 2021. Dorothy is survived by her husband of 62 years, Ernest Kinneth Cook. She is also survived by their three children: daughter Pamela Rena Cook Ballenger and husband Chris, grandchildren Christopher Macaluso and wife Teresa, Dustin Duplessis and Tiffany Duplesis; son Marc Allen Cook and wife Jennifer, grandchildren Destiny and Colin Cook; and daughter Lissa Gale Cook Young and husband Phillip. Dorothy is survived by seven great-grandchildren: Taddum, Traeton, and Madison Duplessis and Haley, Caleb, Matthew, and Jude Macaluso. Dorothy is also survived by one sister Glenda Wall Dayton of Texarkana and Austin, Texas and two sisters-in-law, Peggy Humphries and Connie Wall of Atlanta, Texas. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Dorothy is predeceased by her parents, Elder Loyd and Ruby Wall, her brothers Thomas Anderson and Joseph Compton Wall, and in-laws Gloys and Lois Cook, all of Atlanta.

Dorothy grew up on the family farm in northeast Texas where she rode horses with her brother, Joe, attended rodeos with the family, and did her best to avoid the family’s agricultural pursuits. She attended school in McLeod and completed her senior year in Atlanta. After graduating from high school, she worked as a telephone operator before marrying Kenneth in 1959. Dorothy and Kenneth moved to southern Louisiana soon after the birth of their firstborn and lived there for over fifty years. She was a devoted wife and mother – scorekeeper for her Marc’s baseball and proud mother of two little beauty queens, Rena and Lissa. She faithfully supported her husband in all his endeavors including the many years as a volunteer fireman. In recognition of her dedication, in 1980 she received the President’s Award for Dedication Beyond the Call of Duty from the Galvez Volunteer Fire Department.

Dorothy was a hard-working, kind-hearted, and generous woman who would willingly give the shirt off her back to those in need. Knowing Dorothy and her love for beautiful clothes and accessories, it would have been a very, very nice shirt. Who can ever forget the infectious smile that Dorothy wore through good times and bad? She was quiet and private, but in southern Louisiana she found her voice, her people, and her calling. Dorothy labored for over 26 years, retiring in 2010, with the Jimmy Swaggart Ministries and associated Family Worship Center and Bible College and Seminary. During her tenure, she filled may positions, from assistant to Bro.Swaggart, managing the telephone prayer line, coordinating then-quarterly Resurrection Campmeetings and funerals of the Family Worship Center members. All the while, Dorothy continued her gospel education at the Jimmy Swaggart Bible College, the Louisiana Technical College for her teacher’s certificate, and subsequently taught at the Bible College. In service of the ministry that she so loved, Dorothy worked tirelessly, even sometimes around the clock for special events, resting overnight or between services in the college dorms and the Swaggart’s RV parked in the church parking lot. Although she did not inherit the Wall family’s green thumb, she did inherit the family’s willingness to heed the calling of the Lord. Following in the footsteps of her father, grandfather, and great-great grandfather, Joseph Loyd, Thomas Andrew, and Thomas A. Wall, in 2006, she was ordained a minister of the Gospel.

Funeral services will be conducted by Elder David Smith, assisted by son Marc Cook, also an ordained minister. Visitation will be at 1 PM Thursday, September 9 followed by funeral services at 2 PM at the Ascension Funeral Home of Gonzales. Final resting place will be at the Cornerview Cemetery, also in Gonzales.
