Thelma George Strickland, 87, beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother was called to her eternal home on Friday, May 27, 2022. She entered this world on February 25, 1935 born to Andrew and Goldie George in Tickfaw Louisiana. She never met a stranger and will always be remembered for her faith in Jesus, love for His Church, and celebrating her family and friends. Thelma had a long career working for the State of Louisiana ending with 20 years at Teacher’s Retirement System. She loved working in her flower garden, reading, her daily Diet Coke and weekly painting classes with her girlfriends. Thelma was a dedicated member of Istrouma Baptist Church and a graduate of Independence High School. She will be dearly missed by her husband of 70 years, Donald Strickland; sons Don Strickland, JR (Tammy) and David Strickland (Nicki); daughters Terri Hymel (David) and Laura Strickland; 7 grandchildren and 10 great-children whom she loved dearly. Thelma was preceded in death by her parents and three step-sisters: Earline Hubbs (Berlin), Wilma Erwin and Olivia Kirkland (Joe).
Visitation will be Wednesday, June 1, 2022, at Ascension Funeral Home in Gonzales, from 5:00pm until 8:00pm. Visitation will continue Thursday from 10:00am until the funeral service at 11:00am in the funeral home chapel. Burial will follow at Mt. Zion Cemetery. Pallbearers will be her grandsons.
