Steven E. Lockwood

Steven Lockwood, aged 70, passed away on Friday, April 25, 2025. He was born on January 28, 1955, in Kinder, LA to Freddie (Chapman) and Harold Lockwood, Jr. He graduated from Nicholls State University with a degree in Radio Communications and was commissioned into the Army as a 2nd Lieutenant in 1978, serving at Ft. Bragg. He was married to Peggy Ann Lockwood Vidrine with whom he had two children. He was a truck driver for Penske.

Steve was a huge fan of the Tennessee Volunteers. He wore nothing but Tennessee colors and loved watching and listening to the games. He also was interested in Bigfoot and enjoyed learning about Cryptozoology. History was another passion of his. He could describe every major Civil War battle as if he were there. He was so smart and knowledgeable about so many things, except technology. He called himself a “dino.” Of course, he loved music. John Denver, The Beatles, Celtic Woman, and The Beach Boys were his favorite artists.

Most of all, he loved his family. He would do anything for them. Christmas was his favorite holiday because it meant he got to see and spend time with everyone. He would shop year-round for gifts and gleefully ask if you wanted a hint as to what he got you. He couldn’t wait to see people’s faces as they opened their presents.

Steve is survived by his children, Heather (Donald III) Riley and Matthew Lockwood; his two grandchildren, Dawson Calle and Donald Riley IV; his siblings, James (Lydia) Lockwood, Theresa Lockwood, Victor (Candice) Lockwood, and John (Yvonne) Lockwood; and his significant other, Sherrie Duplessis.

Family, friends, and others who had the pleasure of knowing Steve are invited to his visitation at ASCENSION FUNERAL HOME, 426 W New River St., Gonzales, LA 70737, from 11:30 a.m. until the Funeral Service 1:00 p.m. on Monday, May 5, 2025. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, of which Steve was a proud supporter.
