Ruth Evans

Ruth was a resident of Gonzales, LA and a native of Donaldsonville, LA. She died Friday, September 12, 2009 at her home. She was 89 years old. She and her husband, M. P. Evans, Jr. owned Dutch Cleaners in Gonzales for 46 years. They also were owners of Evans Cattle Farms, one of the largest cattle farms in the area. Visiting will be at Ascension Funeral Home, 426 West New River St., Gonzales, on Monday, September 14, 2009 from 5pm until 9pm and on Tuesday from 9am until service time. Funeral services will be held in the funeral home chapel at 11am and conducted by Dr. James Law. Burial will follow in Hope Haven Cemetery on Hwy 30. Preceded in death by her loving husband of 65 years, M.P. Evans, Jr. She is survived by her brother, Robert A. Bobby Walker and his wife Darnyce of Walker, LA, sisters-in-law, Hazel Evans Brewer of Ethel and Dorothy Gay Evans Roberts of Acy, and brother-in-law, M. W. Bud Castleberry of San Antonio, TX. She was also preceded in death by her parents, John Sullivan Buddy Walker and Ruth Evelyn Chapman Honey Walker, sister, Sadie W. Castleberry and Johnnie Mae W. Bourgeois, and brothers John E. Walker and Lester Vic Walker. She also leaves to mourn a host of nieces, nephews, friends, current and former employees; also a personal and dedicated associate, Leona Shorty Hall Roberson. Pallbearers will be Robby Walker, Mark, Jr., Samuel, and Timothy Stevens, Brad Granier, and Terry Hodgeson. Honorary pallbearers will be Donald Carmouche, Joshua Burnett, Milton Needlenose Vicknair, Bernie Thomas, David Granier, Mark Stevens, Sr., Shelby Robert, Roy Rouyea, Albert Shield, Curtis Roberson, Chuck Methvien and Jimmy Courtney. She was a graduate of LSU and a former educator of the Ascension Parish School Systems. She was a member of the American Legion, Post 81 and Order of the Eastern Star 163. A sincere thank you to her dedicated staff of caregivers Leona, Geraldine, Veola, Cyndi and Mary Lee.
