Ray Alton Goodrich III

October 23, 1959- August 26, 2024

Ray Alton Goodrich III of Prairieville, LA passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving wife and children at the age of 64 on Monday, August 26, 2024. He was born October 23, 1959, to Ray Alton Goodrich Jr and Carol Burge Goodrich in Cordell, OK. Ray grew up in the New Orleans area and spent the last 32 years in the Baton Rouge area.

Ray's heart for his family was unmatched. Known as "Chip" to his family, he was the oldest of 6 siblings and adored his numerous nieces and nephews and their children. His own children and grandchildren were the center of his whole world. His favorite times, which happened frequently, were when the whole family got together. It was usually at his house, either swimming in the pool or watching his LSU Tigers. Ray’s intellect and sense of humor meant that being in his presence was to laugh and to learn.

Ray attended LSU and graduated with a B.S. in Electrical Engineering in 1981. His career in electrical construction spanned across the country as well as internationally and was a source of great satisfaction and opportunity for him. He developed many lifelong friendships throughout his career.

While at LSU he met the great love of his life, Nina Davis Goodrich. The love he shared with his wife was a shining example to everyone who knew the couple. They recently celebrated their 44th wedding anniversary on August 16, 2024, and were still just as in love as the day they wed. They enjoyed years of traveling all over the U.S. together, seeing the National Parks, and enjoying God's Creation.

Ray accepted Jesus as his Lord and Savior in 1982 and was known by all as a true worshipper. It is easy to picture the perfect image of him worshipping at the feet of the Father since it was seen so often here on Earth. Ray’s Bible knowledge was unmatched, and he loved to talk about the work of God’s hand through the ages. He served as a leader at Encounter Church in Grief Share and in Ekids children's ministry.

Ray is preceded in death by his parents, Ray Jr and Carol, by a younger brother Bert Franklin Goodrich, and by his eldest son, Ray Alton Goodrich IV. He is survived by his wife, Nina Anne, his daughter-in-law Patti Jo Goodrich, his daughter Kay Case Schenk (Ryan), and son Joshua Dale Goodrich (Lauren). He always said he was abundantly blessed with 9 grandchildren and one great-granddaughter on the way: Allysa Jo Goodrich Michel (Mason), Victoria Goodrich and Ray Goodrich V; Kinley Hoffman and Evan, Caleb, and Maggie Schenk; and Ryleigh and Isaac Goodrich. He is also survived by his siblings, Dale Goodrich (Hope), Beth Beckwith (Carl), Brad Goodrich, and Heather Karp (Nathan); along with multitudinous nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, coworkers, and church family. Ray lived such a full life and loved so freely that he will be deeply missed.

The family invites friends and extended family to a celebration of life at 1 p.m. on Friday, August 30, 2024, at Encounter Church, 12112 Florida Blvd in Baton Rouge. The visitation at the church will begin at 11:30 a.m. A graveside service will be held at Serenity Oaks in Prairieville immediately following. Pallbearers will be Joshua Goodrich, Dale Goodrich, Brad Goodrich, Dale Goodrich II, Ryan Schenk, and Mason Michel. Honorary pallbearers will be Ray Alton Goodrich V and Evan Schenk.
