Nolan J. Poirrier, Sr., age 86, passed away on July 5, 2021, at his residence surrounded by his loving family. He was a resident and native of Donaldsonville, LA. Nolan was retired after 24 years with Kaiser Aluminum. He served our country during the Korean Conflict in the United States Navy on the USS Colonial. He loved to cook, fish, and golf. Nolan was known for his love to work and doing odd jobs in his community. In his later years in life you could find him making his trips to the casino. He was a faithful member of Ascension of Our Lord Catholic Church in Donaldsonville, LA where he served as an usher. His Catholic faith was the center of his life. Nolan was very committed to the Eucharistic Adoration of the Perpetual Chapel. He also was a member of the Knights of Columbus, the American Legion, the VFW, and St. Joseph Society. He is survived by his daughter, Lisa Poirrier Blanchard and husband, Brad; sons, Kevin Poirrier and companion, Wendy Cassard, Toby Poirrier and wife, Danna, and Mark Poirrier and wife, Donna; brother, Stephen Poirrier and wife, Gayle; grandchildren, Mark Poirrier II and wife, Audrey, Heather Poirrier, Jacob Poirrier and companion, Anna Farris, Erin Poirrier, Cain Poirrier, Brittany Elmer and husband, Joe, Cannon Martinez and husband, Mike, Maggie Blanchard and fiancé, Hunter Lemoine; and great-granddaughter, Ava Farris. Nolan was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Elizabeth Mistretta Poirrier; father, Hilton Charles Poirrier, Sr.; mother, Lezima Tregre Poirrier; brother, Hilton “Tuppy” Poirrier; sisters, Joyce Gavois and Betty Rodrigue. Visitation will be on Friday, July 9, 2021, at Ascension of Our Lord Catholic Church, 716 Mississippi St., Donaldsonville, LA from 9:00am until the Mass of Christian Burial beginning at 11:00am celebrated by Father Paul Yi. Entombment will follow in the church mausoleum. Pallbearers will be Steven Poirrier, Lester Poirrier, John Robert, Alan Gravois, Mark Allan Poirrier, and Jacob Poirrier. Honorary pallbearers will be C.J. Breaux, Bruno Delo, and Vince Cataldo, Sr. In lieu of flowers donation may be made to the Ascension of Our Lord Catholic Church in Donaldsonville.The family would like to give special thanks to staff of Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center, Dr. Vince Cataldo, and Bonnie, Beth, Gina, and Jessica at Amedisys Hospice for their exceptional care. A special thanks to Nolan’s daughter and son-in-law, Lisa and Brad for their loving and caring support.
