Nick James Dicapo, 75, went to dance in Heaven with his wife, Wanda, on February 18, 2022. He passed with his three daughters by his side, holding his hand tight and singing his favorite songs to him. Nick was born in Melville, LA on October 20th, 1946. He graduated from Melville High in 1963. On June 5th, 1965, Nick married the love of his life at a gas station. They shared a coke and a bag of potato chips to celebrate and started their life together. They had a wonderful marriage full of morning coffee, dancing, and loving on every baby they ever met. Their love was one of a kind and a model of what true love is.
Nick was the best Daddy to three girls, Pawpaw (Pops) to 7 grandbabies and one great-grand baby. He was so loved, and he knew it! To everyone else who loved him he was known as Nick Jr., Uncle Rolly, Parrain, Le Parrain, (well only to Crystal), Uncle Nick, Mr. Nick, or “that handsome man over there”!
Nick loved being a Pawpaw and a Daddy and truly thought all of his babies were a genius at something. He was full of random knowledge and funny one-liners. He loved listening to his swamp pop and dancing around the kitchen. He was a true man's-man and could fix just about anything, build anything, and never met a deer that he couldn’t hunt. He spent his years teaching anyone who would listen to everything he knew about building, fixing, and most importantly, loving with his whole heart. If there is one thing everyone knows about Nick James Dicapo, it’s that he was truly a good man who loved deeply.
Nick spent his last years doing everything he wanted to do including hunting, growing a massive garden, watching his family grow, and reconnecting with old friends. Nick will be deeply missed, but he believed in the eternal Father, and we know that he is up in Heaven right now holding Wanda’s hand and sharing a cup of black coffee with his family and old friends. He is proudly sharing stories about all of his friends, family, and babies that he left here on earth. He is smiling with his whole face and saying “WOW”… He is survived by his children, Gwendolyn Dicapo and husband, Tom Burke, Rhonda St. Martin and husband, Jason, and Nikki Lynn Dicapo Deville and husband, David. His 3 siblings, Joslyn, Dennis, and Susan. His sister-in-laws, Brenda and Bertha, and brother-in-laws, Ross and Sidney. His 7 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by his wife, Wanda Lee Ryder, his father Nick Henry Dicapo and mother, Thelma Bergeron Dicapo, and his in-laws, Joseph Edlee Ryder and Glory Guillory Ryder.
Visitation will be held at Ascension Funeral Home, Gonzales, LA on Monday, February 21 at 9 am with the service at 11 am. Burial will follow at the Melville Baptist Cemetery approximately 1:30 pm.
