Morice Mayeux

February 7, 1925 — July 20, 2010

Born on February 7, 1925, in New Orleans, Morice Mayeux, Jr., went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, July 20, 2010. Visitation will be at the Ascension Funeral Home in Gonzales on Thursday, July 22, 2010, from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Visitation resumes at St. Theresa of Avila Catholic Church in Gonzales Friday, July 23, 2010 from 8 a.m. until 10 a.m. followed by the requiem mass at 10 a.m., conducted by the Rev. Gary T. Belsome. Burial will take place at the Hope Haven Cemetery on Highway 30 in Gonzales. He was married to the late Dorothy Irma Barton for 57 years and raised seven children in Gonzales. Morice served in WWII on the Pacific front on the USS Belleau Wood from July 19, 1943 to March 3, 1946 as a Radio Technician Second Class and was awarded a Presidential Unit Citation from Harry S. Truman. He graduated from LSU in 1951 and was a science, math, electronics and industrial education teacher in Ascension Parish for 33 years and taught at Gonzales High School and East Ascension High School. Morice had a passion for teaching and took every opportunity to share this gift with his students and he loved keeping up with his students after graduation. He was well known for his TV repair business up until 2008. He was the son of the late Eunice Mary Mayeaux and Morice W. Mayeux of Avoyelles Parish. He was preceded in death by a daughterinlaw, Joan Ann Bossier Mayeux, and a granddaughter, Sarah Barbara Mayeux. He is survived by his seven children and their spouses all residing in Ascension Parish: Barbara M. and Kenneth J. LeBlanc, Helen F. and Michael E. Califf, Byron J. and Mary E. Cowan Mayeux, Lydia A. and Marvin Dale Dixon, Walter M. and Carol L. Jones Mayeux, David P. and Kelly L. Buker Mayeux, and Thomas L. and Christie Laiche Mayeux. He has seventeen grandchildren: Virginia E. LeBlanc Marquardt, Phoenix, AZ, Kelly J. LeBlanc Bihm, St. Amant, Matthew J. LeBlanc, Gonzales, Michael W. Califf and Eric P. Califf, Baton Rouge, Sheri M. Dixon Schully, Germantown, MD, Danielle M. Dixon Jenkins, Denham Springs, Valerie L. Heumann, Houma, Rebecca N. Mayeux, Baton Rouge, Taylor D. Mayeux and Barton M. Mayeux, Prairieville, Courtney B. Mayeux, Sydney A. Mayeux, and Erin L. Mayeux, Prairieville, and Dustin M. Mayeux, Jesse M. Mayeux and Zachary M. Mayeux, Geismar. He has seven greatgrandchildren: Paige Bihm, Reagan Bihm, Noah Jenkins, Madeleine Schully, Ethan Mayeux, Logan Mayeux, and Rylan Mayeux. He is also survived by his cousins Randy Paisant of New Orleans and Audrey Tassin Jusslin of Alexandria. In lieu of flowers, a memorial scholarship will be established in his name at East Ascension High School, in care of Barbara LeBlanc 10525 Buxton Road, St. Amant, LA 70774.
