A native of Forked Island and a resident of Gonzales, he died Tuesday, Oct. 9, 2012 at his home. He was 58. Visiting at Ascension Funeral Home, 426 W. New River St., Gonzales, on Sunday, Oct. 14, 2012 from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. Visiting continues at the funeral home on Monday, Oct. 15, 2012 from 8 a.m. until chapel service at 10 a.m. conducted by Pastor Donavin Hill. Survivors include his loving wife of 28 years, Jane Messer Istre mother, Opal Ann Campbell 2 daughters, RaeJean Marie Walston and husband John, Ellen Brown 2 sons, Henry Istre and wife Erika, Melvin Phillip Istre III and wife Sheena 1 sister, Cindy Cairns and husband Corky 2 brothers, Randy Istre and wife Denny, Dexter Istre 12 grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews and numerous other adopted family members. Preceded in death by his father, Melvin Phillip Istre, Sr., and special daughter, Ashley Ann Arnold. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations will be greatly appreciated.
