McGuffy S. Mac Fife


It is with great sadness that the family of McGuffy Mac S. Fife announces his passing on Sunday, Jan. 29, 2012, at Gonzales Health Care Center at age 90. McGuffy, known as Mac to all who knew him, proudly served his country in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II. He was one of the founders of the Veterans Memorial Park, a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3693 and American Legion GautreauxWilliams Post 81 in Gonzales. Mac was the 1st Grandmarshall of the 1st annual Gonzales Veterans Day parade in 2010, and the last charter member of the VFW Post 3693. Mac leaves behind a loving and grateful family including his daughters, Mackie Jean Brignac Scott and husband Ken, Alberta Gomez and husband Steve, Wanda Mayers and husband Graylin, and Vera Boudreaux, three sons, Sterling Joe Fife and wife Jaunita, John Wayne and wife Cynthia, and Don Fife and wife Jackie and sister, Willie Billie Williams and husband Carter. He was blessed with 19 grandchildren, Eric Brignac, Lorie Hazlip, Timmy Brignac, Darian Brignac, Jody Fife, Chris Fife, Denny Fife, Reggie Gomez, Tracy Loupe, Paige Naylor, Jeremy Fife, Corey Mayers, DeShea LeBlanc, Wesley Mayers, Jared Mayers, Lynn Boudreaux, Melanie Michael, Lindsay Berthelot and Lathan Fife and 21 greatgrandchildren. He now rests in Heaven with his beloved wife of 61 years, Valburg E. Gautreau Fife parents, William and Mae Fife six sisters, Vivian Comeaux, Alberta Cockerham, Inez Masenbacker, Lottie Mashaw, Jewel Bercegeay Berteau and Marian Fife six brothers, Jack Stephenson, Bud Stephenson, Pat Stephenson, Adrian Red Fife, Marshal Fife and Pearl Fife and soninlaw, Melvin Boudreaux. At the request of the family, visitation will be held at Ascension Funeral Home, 426 W. New River St., Gonzales, on Monday, Jan. 30, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Visiting resumes at the funeral home on Tuesday, Jan. 31, from 9 a.m. until chapel service at 11 a.m. Rite of Committal will follow in the Hope of Heaven Cemetery, La. 30, Gonzales, with Pastor John Krause officiating.
