Mary Ann Yount Stipe

Mary Ann Stipe, 87, of Baton Rouge, La., passed away peacefully on March 10, 2024.

She was born in Baytown, Texas in 1936 to Ibra Alvin Yount and Norma Neva Sherman Yount. She grew up in Baytown, and spent many happy weekends and summers with grandparents and extended family in Anahuac and Milam County Texas. Mary Ann graduated from Baylor University in 1958, married the love of her life, Dennis Stipe of Hico, Texas, and began a long career in education. Over the years she taught science, English, and social studies at multiple schools in Dallas, Texas and Crowley, Louisiana; headed social studies departments at high schools in Crowley and Baton Rouge, Louisiana; and served as a private school principal in Baton Rouge. She loved her students and organizing programs at her schools.

Mary Ann also loved music - singing, playing organ for First Baptist Church in Crowley, and teaching piano lessons. She loved socializing and organizing events as a member of the LSU Campus Club and served a term as its president. She enjoyed being with long-time friends in Baton Rouge and with new friends in Orange Beach, Alabama, her favorite place to spend time in retirement. She was always up for long phone calls, staying connected with scattered friends and many aunts, uncles and cousins over many years,

Mary Ann was preceded in death by her parents Ibra and Neva Yount, and is survived by her husband of nearly 65 years, Dennis Stipe; daughters Cinda Stipe Voegtli (Bill) of Denver, CO; Charlotte Stipe Maness (James) of Baton Rouge LA, and Cheryl Stipe Rudd (Terry) of Baton Rouge; 7 grandchildren - Andrew Maness (Ashley), Parker Maness, and Taylor Maness (Sarah); Ellen Voegtli; Thomas Rudd (Mary Catherine), Adam Rudd (Samantha), and Aaron Rudd; and 3 great grandchildren - Katie, Annie, and Vivian Maness.

Mary Ann's family will remember and celebrate Mary Ann's life and their love for her privately.
