In Loving Memory of Marcelle Woosley
With heavy hearts, we share the news of the passing of our cherished grandmother and aunt, Marcelle Brou Woosley, of Gonzales, Louisiana. She was born on January 18, 1928, in Donaldsonville, Louisiana to Marcel and Aline Brou.
For 98 years, Marcelle graced her family and friends with love and prayers, and on Saturday, May 2, 2026, passed away into Jesus’ loving arms.
Marcelle was humble, kind and her generosity touched countless lives. Through her charitable works and compassionate spirit, she left a lasting impact on all who were fortunate to know her. She was a strong and Godly woman who inspired and taught her family and friends so much about her Catholic faith.
She is survived by her grandchildren, Christopher Woosley and Nikol Markert and husband Mike, her great-grandchildren Madeline and Grayson Markert; her daughter-in-law, Cathy Woosley; her nephews, Scott McClelland (Betty), Robert McClelland (Patti), Neal McClelland (Leah), her niece, Beth Murrell (Harold), as well as numerous great-nieces and nephews.
Marcelle is preceded in death by her parents, Marcel and Aline Robert Brou, her beloved son, Michael Woosley, her sisters Audrey Waggenspack and husband Finny and Rowena McClelland and husband Robert.
Marcelle will be remembered for her generosity, compassion and strength, qualities that made her beloved by all. None more than her son, Mike, who appreciated her gift of Catholic education from first grade through Catholic High School. She also assured his college education with a degree in medical technology.
Marcelle retired from the Louisiana State Department of Agriculture after 30 years and then began a new chapter as caregiver to her beloved mother. We honor her remarkable life as mother, daughter, sister, aunt, friend and finally as grandmother and great-grandmother.
The family would like to recognize and thank the following for the great care she received from Azalea Estates Assisted Living, Clarity Hospice and At Home Care of Louisiana, especially Lydia Payne.
Though she will be deeply missed, Marcelle's spirit will continue to inspire and guide us each day. May she rest in peace.
Funeral services celebrating Marcelle's life will be held at St. Theresa of Avila Catholic Church in Gonzales, LA, on Saturday, May 16th from 10am until Noon. A Rosary will begin at 11am followed a Mass of Christian Burial at Noon.
Final resting place will be at Ascension of Our Lord Catholic Church Mausoleum in Donaldsonville.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Society of St. Vincent de Paul of Baton Rouge.
