Lois McNeese Holmes, 95, of Gonzales, LA, passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 30, 2022.
Lois was born January 21, 1927, in Bogalusa, La. to the late Prentiss and Maude McNeese. She was married to Joseph Dempsey "J.D." Holmes Sr., for almost fifty years until his death in 2005. Lois was always proud to brag about being one of the first women hired at BASF/Wyandotte where she served as a key member of the accounting department until her retirement.
Lois's greatest joy in life was her family. She was a wonderful mother and grandmother who enjoyed many hobbies, especially genealogy. She will be remembered for her cooking, especially Sunday and holiday dinners. She was extremely devoted to her family, and they meant everything to her. One of her greatest joys was watching her grandchildren grow-up and then her great-grandchildren. They were her pride and joy.
Lois is survived by her daughters, Jacquie Z. Sherlock (Richard), Baton Rouge, and Linda H. Braud (Martin) Gonzales; son Joseph D. "Buddy" Holmes Jr., Gonzales; her grandchildren, Jeffery Braud, Sean Achord Sherlock, Ginger H. George (Lance), Ashley B. Baham (Brandon), Gina S. Jones (Raymond); great-grandchildren, Harper Holmes, Madison George, William George, Avery Jones and Olivia Braud; as well as several special nieces and nephews.
Visiting at Ascension Funeral Home, Gonzales, from 10 a.m. until religious service at 12 p.m., Thursday, May 5, 2022. Burial in Hope Haven Cemetery, Gonzales, LA, to follow. Pallbearers, Brandon Baham, Jeffery Braud, Martin “Bud” Braud, Raymond Jones, and Richard Sherlock.
We would like to thank the entire staff of Gonzales Healthcare Center, for the tremendous compassion, love, care and comfort they have shown over the last few years. Their words of kindness and their generosity will always be appreciated and remembered. Please remember Lois with a contribution to the Cure Alzheimer’s Fund or Dementia Society of America.
