Leonard Williams

Leonard Cassie Williams, 97, passed away August 3, 2012 in Deer Park, Texas. Leonard was born on November 8, 1914 in Sugartown, Louisiana to Cassie and Emma Sanders Williams.

He married Elsie Reeves and the couple had a daughter, Leona Jean, before divorcing. He then married Margaret Hebert.

He was an oilfield worker before joining the Army in 1941 and serving in the 813 Engineer Aviation Battalion during the AsiaticPacific Campaign in WWII. After mustering out of the Army, he returned to the oilfield, where he was a member of the Boilermakers Union.

Leonard was a longtime residence of Gonzales, watching it grow from the twolane dirt road that was Burnside to the thriving town it is today. After Hurricane Katrina, he moved to Texas with his daughter to be closer to the family there.

Visitation will be held at Ascension Funeral Home, 426 W. New River St., in Gonzales, on Friday, August 17, 2012 from 6pm until 8pm. Visitation continues at the funeral home, on Saturday, August 18, 2012 from 9am until Chapel Service at 10am. Interment will follow in Hope Haven Garden of Memory, in Gonzales.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret, his daughter, Jean Sager and his stepdaughter Betty Millet. He is survived by his grandchildren Joanne Spindle and husband Rob, Melinda Porter and husband Jim, and Timothy Sager seven greatgrandchildren and six greatgreat grandchildren.
