Lawrence L. Chambers Sr., age 100, passed away at his home on Sunday, September 6, 2015, at 9:07 p.m. He was a resident of Gonzales, LA and native of Wilkinson County, MS. He was a retired driller with Shell Oil Company. He was a member, deacon, and usher at First Baptist Church of Gonzales. He loved to hunt and fish. Before the city of Gonzales had a fire department, he helped start and was a charter member of the Gonzales Volunteer Fire Department. Visiting at Ascension Funeral Home, 426 W. New River St., Gonzales, on Thursday, September 10, 2015, from 12:00 noon until service at 2:00 p.m. conducted by Rev. Leon Carpenter. Burial in Lusk Cemetery. Survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Gail and Willie Wade Hill; one son and daughter-in-law, Lawrence L. Jr. and Judy Chambers; one sister, Beatrice Norred and husband, Jim; five grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; and five great-great grandchildren. Preceded in death by his wife of 70 years of marriage, Ines M. Chambers; parents, Ernest Lee and Alice Escher Chambers; two sisters, Mabel Norwood and Beverly Gilbert; and a cousin, whom was like a brother, Thomas Escher.
