Lavern Landry

August 25, 1923 — April 26, 2009


A resident of Gonzales, he died at his home late Sunday, April 26, 2009. He was 85 and proudly served his country during WWII. He served in the U.S. Navy in both the European and Pacific Theaters aboard the U.S.S. Block Island. He retired from Borden Chemical Monochem. Rev. Charles Marceaux will conduct graveside services at New River Baptist Church Cemetery on Friday, May 1, 2009 at 10am. He is survived by his wife of over 61 years, Rosalie Melancon Landry, daughter and son-in-law, Maribeth and Clyde Berthelot, Jr., two sons and daughters-in-law; Randy and Christine Landry, and Kenneth and Roberta Landry, six grandchildren; Toby Petty and wife Laurie, Jenny Petty, Kip Landry and wife Florencia, Casey Shoemaker and husband Henry, Kerrie Holmes and husband Mark, and Kelly Landry, and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Turiaph and Pearlie Landry and his brother, Alpha Sonny Landry. He was a member of the New River Masonic Lodge, 402, the Gonzales VFW, the U.S.S. Block Island Association, the McElroy Hunting Club and he was a member of Broussard Grove Baptist Church where he served as Deacon. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Cindy Landry, Tangela Wilson, Neely Michel and the entire staff of Amedisys Hospice Services. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to the Broussard Grove Baptist Church Building Fund, 39258 Hwy 42, Prairieville, LA 70769.
