Johnny Wayne McCann September 27, 1946 – March 28, 2026
Johnny Wayne McCann, a lifelong resident of Louisiana and beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away on March 28, 2026, at the age of 79.
Born in Marksville, Louisiana, and raised in Hessmer, Johnny lived a life defined by hard work, deep faith, and unwavering devotion to his family. He proudly served his country as a veteran of the United States Army. Following his service, Johnny dedicated 40 years of his career to BASF Chemicals, where he worked until his retirement in 2014.
Johnny was preceded in death by his parents, Lloyd and Marguerite McCann, and his younger brother, Michael.
He is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Mary McCann. Together they built a beautiful life centered on family. He is also survived by his children: Jeff McCann and wife Patty of Baton Rouge, David McCann and wife Shelby of Las Vegas, and Molly McCann of Baton Rouge. He was a proud grandfather to Jake (19), Kate (17), Matthew (8), and Madelyn (1), all of whom brought him immense joy.
Johnny was known for his warm personality, quick wit, and gift for storytelling. He had a natural ability to make people laugh and feel at ease. A true family man and loyal friend, he was always the first to lend a helping hand or offer support to anyone in need. Whether it was sharing stories over a beer in his “man cave,” cooking a memorable meal, or simply spending time with loved ones, Johnny made every moment count.
He had a passion for cooking, gardening, and traveling—especially family beach trips and visits with loved ones. His cooking, in particular, will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
A man of strong faith, Johnny was a devoted parishioner of St. Patrick Catholic Church for over 20 years.
A celebration of Johnny’s life will be held on Friday, April 10th, 2026, at St. Patrick Catholic Church with visitation from 9am to 10:30am and mass following at 10:30am. Burial will take place immediately after at Resthaven Gardens of Memory.
The family extends heartfelt gratitude to all of Johnny’s physicians who provided him with exceptional care and gave the family additional quality time together. Special thanks to Dr. David Moll and his team for their compassion and dedication - you were a great source of comfort during his final years. The family also wishes to thank The Hospice of Baton Rouge for their care and support.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Johnny’s honor to The Coalition For Hemophilia B (https://www.hemob.org/donate).
Johnny will be remembered for his love of family, his kindness, his humor, and his unwavering presence in the lives of those who knew him. He was a great Husband, Dad, Papa and Friend, and leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and lasting memories.
