Johnny Howard Dyer, passed away June 30th, 2025, surrounded by his family at the age of 74. He was born on February 12th, 1951, to his parents, William Ralph Dyer, Sr. and Wanda Rachel Dyer, in Shreveport, LA. He was the youngest of four children and grew up on Lake Bistineau, where he lived to fish and go frog gigging with his buddies. His favorite story to tell as a child was traveling the motorcycle and Nascar circuit with his dad as he made his way to the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame.
On March 11, 1981, he married Teri, and they resided in Blanchard, Louisiana as they operated his dental lab. In 1989 they relocated to Baton Rouge to expand his dental lab business.
His passion for Nascar and dirt track racing ignited at Baton Rouge Raceway where he followed his dad’s legacy and made many lifelong friends, fans and memories. He was an entrepreneur always thinking of ways to make money and planning his next adventure. Whether it would be building customized children’s playgrounds, owning an awards/trophy shop, building a smokehouse restaurant (he loved BBQ), or having a commercial lawn care service. No matter what the adventure was, he remained committed to the dental lab profession. He always dedicated time to the youth and coached bitty ball and softball. In his spare time, he enjoyed LSU sports, competing for the big catch of the day and hunting with his family and friends. Johnny was a comedian by nature, and his wit and charm always brightened your day. He always left you with a smile.
He is preceded in death by his parents, his brother, William Ralph Dyer, Jr.; nephew, William Ralph Dyer, III, (Trey); In-Laws, Bobby and Myra Winder.
Johnny was a devoted husband, father, brother, grandfather and friend. There are many who can say they were lucky to call him a friend. He will be deeply missed and never forgotten.
He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Teri; Son, Wesley Dyer (Chad), Jacksonville, Texas; Daughter, Ashli Deshotel, Baton Rouge; Four grandchildren, Kyli Norris, Baton Rouge; Jocque Deshotel, Baton Rouge; Colwin Uren, Bullard, Texas; Hannah Uren, Odessa, Texas; Sister, Dalail Brandon (Joel), Edmond, OK; Brother, Bill Long (Sharon), Shreveport, LA and several awesome nieces and nephews. And his much-loved fur babies, Izzy, Tiger, and Chloe girl.
We would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. J Hunt Odom, John Good, Renee Healy, Albert Montgomery, Jeff Norris, Lauren Gutierrez, June Scott, Marilyn Taylor (Pie), Vickie Ward, and Kayla Armstrong for all their support.
A celebration of life for Johnny will be held at a later date.
Racers Prayer
Lord, I pray as I race today.
Keep me safe along the way.
Not only me, but the other’s too
As they perform the jobs they do.
I know God that in every race
I, the driver set the pace.
Let not my desire for more speed,
Warp my judgement, turn into greed.
From green to checkered guide me through,
Give me strength to know what to do.
Remind me often in the race of life
How to go with all the strife.
Help me accept the wins I may receive
And all the defeats graciously.
Ride with me, don’t allow me to lag
Guide me all the way to the Checkered Flag.
Amen!
