John Remel

John T. Remel, preceded in death by his wife Chris Brouillette Remel of 69 years, died at home in Gonzales, LA at 6 pm on Thursday, Dec. 18, 2014. John was 96 years old, born on Aug. 8, 1918 in Echo, LA and retired as a foreman with J.A. Jones Construction. He was a Army Veteran of WWII and a member of the American Legion Post 81 Gonzales and Carpenters and Piledrivers Local Union 1846. He played baseball for the Alexandria Pelicans and loved fishing, hunting and his vegetable garden. He was an avid LSU tiger fan and especially LSU baseball. His favorite quote was I am not old just my clothes are old. Visitation at Ascension Funeral Home, 426 W. New River St., Gonzales,LA 70737 on Saturday, Dec. 27, 2014 from 9 am until service at 12 noon conducted by Rev. Denis Ekwugha, Chaplain at St. Elizabeth Hospital and Rev. Paul Pearson. Graveside service with military honors at 2:30 pm at Jefferson Memorial Gardens, 11316 River Rd., St. Rose, LA, 70087. Survived by daughters and sonsinlaws, Christine Robinson and husband James, Debra Russell and husband Ken, Monique Jackson and husband Joe and Carolyn Remel foster daughters, Debbie Colomb and Gwen Lambert sisters, Flora Mae Remel Gaspard and Louella Remel Fogarty grandchildren, Terry Russell and wife Tina, Timothy Russell and wife Elisa, Jeanne Samples, Robert Cabirac and wife Paula eight greatgrandchildren. Preceded in death by parents, Napoleon and Delia Remel daughter, Mydris Lane Remel sister, Blanche Remel Armond brothers, infant Remel, Joseph Bryan Remel, Julius Joseph Remel, Lance Anthony Remel, Carol Paul Remel and Edward Gerard Remel. Special thanks to his long term caregivers Bonnie Hernandez and Lynn Wassan for their love and care. A special thanks to Bobby Mones for his friendship all these years.
