Joann Edwards

JoAnn Veazey Edwards, age 81, passed away on Sunday, December 13, 2015, at 8:00 a.m. at her home in St. Amant, LA. A resident of St. Amant and native of New Orleans. She was a retired switchboard operator with East Ascension Hospital. Visiting at Ascension Funeral Home, 426 W. New River St., Gonzales, LA on Wednesday, December 16, 2015 from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. Visiting at New River Baptist Church, 45270 Hwy. 429, St. Amant, LA, on Thursday, from 9:00 a.m. until service at 11:00 a.m. conducted by Rev. Wayne Talley. Burial at New River Baptist Cemetery. Survived by her special nieces, JoAnn Hager, Michelle Templet, and Susan Veazey; special nephews, David Veazey and Ed Hager; beloved sister, Betty Veazey; beloved brother, Carl Veazey; beloved foster sisters, June Delaune and Jewel Diez; and other nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by her husband, Hanson J. "Sonny" Edwards Jr.; her parents, Andrew and Eunice Veazey; five brothers; and one nephew, Russel Ayo. She was a member of New River Baptist Church, Order of Eastern Star and a Queen with the Red Hat Ladies.
