Horace Theriot was born on March 21, 1924 to Daisy and Horace Theriot Sr. He departed this life from Carpenter House on Friday October 4, 2013 at the age of 89. Horace grew up in Fairfields and was known as Brother to his sisters: Elfleda Nevils, Norma Ory, Neva von Monarch, Bernadette Mills, Shirley Browning, June Phelps deceased and to his own brother J.G. Theriot. He was Uncle Brother to the many nieces and nephews and then to their children. Horace was a veteran of WWII. He graduated from Navy flight school at Pensacola and was commissioned a Second Lieutenant in the Army Air Corps. He went on to become a flight instructor and met his sweetheart, Norma June Roberts while he was stationed at Moore Field in Texas. They were married after he returned from the European Theater where he flew C47s and piloted a glider in the invasion of Germany. After the war, Theriot went to work at Standard Oil as a burner and welder and later a Supervisor and Contract Coordinator. He freely shared his maintenance skills as the go to guy who kept the neighborhood mowers and bicycles and go carts running. Mr. T was an avid motorcyclist and spent many hours riding solo and with friends from several riding groups. Theriot and his beloved Norma June spent the last few decades in Prairieville where he was a member of Carpenters Chapel and they moved to Magnolia Assisted Living Facility about a year ago. In addition to his wife Norma June, Horace is survived by two daughters and a son. Penny Hawkins and her husband John live in Jacksonville Texas and her son Mica lives in Marshall, Arkansas and he has a son, Benjamin. Becky LeJeune and her husband Randy live in Prairieville near their daughters Emily and Natalie. Emily is married to Adam Braud and they have a son Madden and a daughter on the way. Natalies husband Kyle Meyers was recently deceased and their daughter is, Sophia. Son Jody Theriot and his wife Kay live in Grantsville, Maryland and his daughter Jennifer lives in Friendsville, Maryland his son Eli lives in Taos, New Mexico with wife Kathy.
Funeral arrangements are being handled by Ascension Funeral Home of Gonzales. Visitation and funeral will be at Carpenters Chapel United Methodist: 41181 Hwy 933, Prairieville on Monday October 7. Friends and family will be received for visitation beginning at 9 am and the funeral will be at 11 am. Interment will be at Green Oaks Cemetary. The family requests that those who wish to make donations in lieu of flowers consider Carpenter House and the important work they do.
