Gonzales, Louisiana

Gregg Richard Wyllie, son of Albert F. Wyllie and Gwendolene Hay Wyllie, died on May 10, 2024, in Gonzales, Louisiana. Gregg was born on January 17, 1954, in Jos, Nigeria, where his parents were serving as educational missionaries, running the Igbaja Teacher Training College. When Gregg was almost two years old, he contracted cerebral malaria which left him brain damaged. As a result of his illness, the Wyllie’s left the mission field and returned to the United States where they worked within the Presbyterian denomination and Gregg could attend special schools.

 

Gregg was preceded in death by his older brother John Finlay (1950-2023) and is survived by his older sister Diana Wyllie Rigden (1947- ) and his three nieces: Sylwinn Tudor (1980-), Gwyneth Wyllie (1982- ), and Tynan Wyllie (1987- ).

 

The family would like to extend special thanks to Lydia St. Amant and Jonathan Landry for their attentive care of Gregg with the staff of Medical Management Services.

 

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Memorial Visitation on Tuesday, May 28, 2024, from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at Ascension Funeral Home, 426 West New River Street in Gonzales.
