Gertrude Evans

January 23, 1923 — July 27, 2008

Gertrude White Evans, born Jan. 23, 1923, to Frank and Winnie White, died Sunday, July 27, 2008, after a courageous battle with cancer. Ganky will always be remembered for her zest for life. Before becoming ill, she had recently taken two mission trips to Nicaragua with her church group and an Alaskan cruise with some best buddies. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her. The one thing that never wavered through the last 15 months was her faith and relationship with God. After a three-week stay in the hospital several months ago, while driving away from the hospital she said, God never left my side in that hospital. I could feel Him everywhere, even close in my bed so that I would know I was never alone. He never left her and she never left Him -now they are rejoicing together. Preceded in death by her husband, Sterling Evans; parents, Frank and Winnie White; sisters, Rena Finley, Viola White and Hettie Mae Kelly; and brothers, Alex White and Lester White. Survived by her daughters, Sharyn Blanchard and husband Raymond, and Pam Truax and husband David; two grandchildren, Kyndra McKinstry and husband Toby, and Daren Truax; two great-grandsons, Crawford and Thatcher McKinstry; sister, Alva White; and brother, Edwin White. Visitation at Ascension Funeral Home, 426 W. New River St., Gonzales, on Thursday, July 31, from 9 a.m. until funeral service at 11 a.m. Contributions may be made to Parkview Baptist Church, 11795 Jefferson Highway, Baton Rouge, LA 70816 Nicaraguan Missions.
