Elton David Bernard was born on November 21, 1930, and passed from this life on March 8, 2017. He was a native of Baton Rouge and long-time resident of Gonzales, Louisiana. He and his wife were credentialed ministers of the United Pentecostal Church International and pioneer missionaries to Korea for 20 years, where they established 22 churches, a Bible college, and three U.S. military fellowships. They also established three churches in Louisiana, including a Spanish-speaking congregation. Elton Bernard is preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Loretta Artigue Bernard; parents, Walter and Lillian Bernard; two sisters, Ethel Waller and Margie Fleming; and three brothers, Walter, Osborn, and L. J. Bernard. He is survived by three children, David K. Bernard and wife, Connie; Karen Hatcher and husband, Charles; and Julie Celey and husband, Johnny; seven grandchildren, Jonathan Bernard and wife, Sara; Krista Hatcher and fiancé, Christopher Miller; Daniel Bernard and wife, Kalee; Lindsey Chrestman and husband, Cullen; Von de Leigh Hatcher, Michael Celey, and Christopher Celey; three great-grandchildren, Elijah, Adelle, and Rylynn Bernard; and two sisters, Florence Koon Williams and Rosemary Ward. Visitation is on Saturday, March 11, 2017, at Centro de Vida, Iglesia Pentecostal Unida, 13477 Pamela Street, Gonzales, LA 70737, from 11:00 a.m. until service at 1:00 p.m. Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park.
