Elia Thomassie

A loving mother, sister and grandmother, Elia Thomassie died Monday, Feb. 2, 2009, at Gonzales Health Care Center at age 83. Visitation at Ascension Funeral Home, 426 W. New River St., Gonzales, on Tuesday, Feb. 3, from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Visiting at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, St. Amant, on Wednesday from 9 a.m. until Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m., with the Rev. Jon Koehler, celebrant. Burial in Holy Rosary Catholic Cemetery. She is survived by four daughters and sons-in-law, Marie and Roger Fontenot, Geneva and Gary Rouyea Sr., Audrey and Gerald Babin and Sharon and Earl Moore; son and daughter-in-law, George P. Jr. and Linda Thomassie; 10 grandchildren, Rodney, Kevin, Richard, Debbie, Ken, Elizabeth, Gary Jr., Kristi, Tracy and Sherry; 25 great-grandchildren; and brother, Janson Babin. Preceded in death by her husband, George P. Thomassie Sr.; parents, Octave and Mathilde Lambert Babin; daughter, Shirley Melancon; two sisters and two brothers. Pallbearers will be Rodney Melancon, Kevin Fontenot, Richard Thomassie, Ken Fontenot, Gary Rouyea Jr. and Kerry Prejean.
