Effie Johnson

Effie passed away Christmas Day, Saturday, Dec. 25, 2010, at the age of 95. She died peacefully in her home with her family around her. She is now finally reunited with her beloved husband, Nelson Johnson, who preceded her in death by 10 months. Effie was a native of Ville Platte, but made her home in Baton Rouge and Prairieville. Effie and her husband were very involved in the establishment of St. Gerard Majellan Parish when they were rearing their family. After his retirement, they moved to Prairieville and became very active with St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church. Effie was a member of the Altar Society, Rosary Group, Knights of Columbus Auxiliary and Exxon Annuity Retirement Group. She and her husband attended daily mass for 30 years. Visiting at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, 15208 La. 73, Prairieville, on Tuesday, December 28, from 9:30 a.m. until a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m., with the Rev. Eric Gyan, celebrant. Interment in Greenoaks Memorial Park. She is survived by four children, Rowel Johnson and wife Rose, Elaine Johnson LaHaye and husband Dennis of Lafayette, Kathy Johnson Bailey and husband Tim, and Wanda Johnson Hidalgo and husband Jerry as well as a sister, Germaine Vidrine. She will be missed by 11 grandchildren, 20 greatgrandchildren, and three greatgreatgrandchildren, and many friends and extended family members. Effie was preceded in death by her parents, Guillaume and Marie Vidrine sister Una Vidrine, her brother Burke Vidrine, all of Ville Platte and a grandson, Brad Hidalgo, of Baton Rouge. Pallbearers will be Aren and Brandon Johnson, Marcus Bailey, Gerard Lavergne, Dakota Lavergne and Travis Lavergne. The family wishes to express their deep gratitude to their mothers three caregivers Trudy Hebert, Gwen Hoyt and Jesse Easley. Their care and devotion to her was a blessing to all of us.
