Jim was called home by his Heavenly Father on Wednesday, April 13, 2016, at Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center at 10:15 a.m. at the age of 80. He is survived by the love of His Life, Jean Carole Toca Linn, his wife of 56 1/2 years, devoted father of Jean L. Heneghan (Dr. Jim), James Michael Linn III (fiancée, Shelly Vollenweider), Erin L. Hughes (Rickee), Kevin Linn (Valerie), Michael Linn (Peggy), Michelle L. Fallon (Patrick), and Robert Linn ( Carmen). Grandfather of Carolyn, Christopher, Katherine, Colleen Heneghan, James Michael IV (Jen), Aimee, Garrison Linn, Thomas, David, Matthew, Rachel Jeansonne, Jennifer, Megan, Stephen Linn, Maggie, Ryan Linn, Greggory, Rebecca Fallon, R.J., and Alyssa Linn. Brother of Debra L. Ursin (Terry) and the late Lenore L. Wallin (John). Son of the late James M. Linn Sr. and Mary Marcella Leach Linn. Also, uncle to numerous nieces and nephews. Jim graduated from Jesuit High School in 1953 and Loyola University in 1959 with a degree in General Dentistry. He practiced in New Orleans and Metairie for over 43 years and taught in the Loyola and L.S.U. Dental Schools. Jim's love before he met Jean, was baseball. He played at Jesuit and Loyola. Jim participated in back to back championship teams in 1953 and 1954 with the LaRoccas in Johnstown, PA. He had been awarded a full scholarship to Dental School. The scouts noticed Jim's great baseball ability and he was offered a contract with the Chicago Cubs. However, he wanted to be a dentist, so he declined the contract. Jim is in the Hall of Fame at both schools. After graduation, he was a captain stationed with the Air Force in Austin, Texas (Bergstrom Air Force Base). Upon returning home he started his practice. He belonged to many professional dental organizations including New Orleans Dental Association, Southeastern Academy of Prosthodontics of which he was a President, Academy of General Dentistry, Pierre Fauchard Academy and others. He was active in many catholic organizations and received the St. Louis Medallion. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus (3rd and 4th degree) Ludovicum Council 4663 in Metairie and K.C. 2657 in Gonzales. He held several Vocation Fairs at the Notre Dame Seminary and started the Serra Club of Metairie. He worked for 35 years with the Archdiocese Communities Appeal and Catholic Charities. He was a lector and Eucharistic Minister at St. Louis King of France, Mercy Hospital, and St. Elizabeth Hospital in Gonzales. He received the Man & Boy Award from the Boy's Club of America and also was a Great Gentleman of East Jefferson General Hospital. He was honored by Heart Ambassadors as a breast cancer survivor. He was VP on the Board of Directors for Angel's Place for 7 years. He loved helping others and was devoted to his family. Visitation at St. Theresa of Avila Catholic Church, 1022 N. Burnside Ave., Gonzales, LA, on Saturday, April 16, 2016 from 9:00 a.m. until Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. conducted by Rev. Eric V. Gyan. Followed by additional services by Rev. Robert Massett at Schoen Funeral Home, 3827 Canal St., New Orleans, from 1:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. Followed by procession to entombment at Greenwood Cemetery, New Orleans, LA.
