Born on September 23, 1924, in Innis, Dorothy Irma Barton Mayeux, went to be with the Lord on Friday, March 14, 2008 at 3:40 p.m. Visitation will be at the Ascension Funeral Home formerly known as Welsh Funeral Home, 426 West New River St. in Gonzales on Monday, March 17, 2008 from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Visitation resumes at St. Theresa of Avila Catholic Church in Gonzales from 8 a.m. until 10:00 a.m. followed by the requiem Mass at 10:00 a.m., conducted by the Rev. Gary T. Belsome. Burial will take place at the Hope Haven Cemetery on Highway 30 in Gonzales. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and aunt. She has been married to Morice Mayeux, Jr. for 57 years and together they have raised their seven children in Gonzales. Dorothy graduated from Baton Rouge High School in 1941 and from the Baton Rouge Business School in 1942. She worked as a bank teller for Fidelity National Bank in Baton Rouge until she moved to Gonzales in 1951. She was the daughter of the late Daisey Irma Miller and Arthur Kelly Barton Sr. She was also preceded in death by two brothers, Bryan Irvin Barton and Arthur Kelly Barton, Jr; three sisters, Velma Louise Barton, Claudia Barton Hoyt and Beverly Barton Ramer; one daughter-in-law, Joan A. Bossier Mayeux, a granddaughter, Sarah Barbara Mayeux and a niece Irma Ramer Bates. She is survived by her seven children and their spouses all living in Ascension Parish: Barbara M. and Kenneth J. LeBlanc, Helen F. and Michael E. Califf, Byron J. and Mary E. Cowan Mayeux, Lydia A. and Marvin D. Dixon, Walter M. and Carol L. Jones Mayeux, David P. and Kelly L. Buker Mayeux, and Thomas L. and Christie Laiche Mayeux. She has seventeen grandchildren: Virginia E. LeBlanc Marquardt, Phoenix, AZ, Kelly J. LeBlanc Bihm, Gonzales, Matthew J. LeBlanc, St. Amant, Michael W. Califf and Eric P. Califf, Baton Rouge, Sheri M. Dixon Schully, Germantown, MD, Danielle M. Dixon Jenkins, Denham Springs, Valerie Heumann, Thibodaux, Rebecca N. Mayeux, Baton Rouge, Taylor D. Mayeux and Barton M. Mayeux, Prairieville, Courtney B. Mayeux, Sydney A. Mayeux, and Erin L. Mayeux, Prairieville, Dustin M. Mayeux, Jesse M. Mayeux and Zachary M. Mayeux. Geismar. She has six great-grandchildren: Paige Bihm, Noah Jenkins, Madeleine Schully, Ethan Mayeux, Logan Mayeux, and Rylan Mayeux. She is also survived by her cousin Yvonne Ford Ryder, of Metairie, her sister-in-law, Harriet Eaton Barton, of Baton Rouge, and many nieces and nephews. Grandsons and great-grandsons-in-law will serve as pallbearers. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimers Services of the Capital Area, 3772 North Blvd., Ste. B, Baton Rouge, LA 70806.
