He is survived by his daughter, Maria Saia; nieces, Cynthia Johnston Piper, Debra Johnston Rabalais, Tina Johnston Michelli, and Jan Johnston Hale; grandchildren, Evelyn Rose Fernandez, Michael Jude Fernandez, and Dominic James Fernandez.
Mr. Johnston was preceded in death by his son, Jeremiah Johnston; parents, Irene Dunaway Johnston, and Clinton W. Johnston; brothers, Clinton A. Johnston and Daniel L. Johnston.
