Concetta “Connie” Guidry

June 1, 1936 — May 19, 2024

Concetta “Connie” Guidry loved her family fiercely until her death on May 19, 2024, at 87 years old. Though she played many roles in her life including wife, mother, sister, friend, and employee, her favorite was that of “Nonna,” an Italian matriarchal figure charged with guiding, advising, worrying about, and loving all those in her family.

Connie was born and grew up in the ninth ward in New Orleans.  She was an Italian New Orleans woman through and through. She took pride in her cooking and loved to see her family enjoy her food and each other’s company. She loved a good card game with friends, a fishing trip, a night out at the casino or dancing or both. While her employment outside the home in banking for over thirty years was important to her, her family took center stage in her life. She made countless sacrifices for her children and grandchildren, constantly emphasizing the significance of maintaining strong familial bonds. Perhaps her greatest legacy is her children's unwavering closeness and dedication to each other to this day.

Connie lived in the New Orleans area until Hurricane Katrina caused her to move to Ascension Parish where she resided for the last nineteen years. She will be forever cherished and loved by all those who knew her, especially her children and grandchildren.

Connie is survived by her daughters, Bonnie Bono Kramer, Cindy Guidry, and husband (Norman) and Cheryl Guidry, sons, Jimmy Bono, Jr. and wife (Suzanne), Vincent Bono, and wife (Sandra), Samuel Bono and wife (Nicole), and Bubba Guidry, 12 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandchild.

She is preceded in death by her father, Vincent Zanca, mother, Pearl Zanca, husband, Rodney Guidry, and brother, Tony Zanca.
