Charles Edward Welsh

October 4, 1943 — October 13, 2025

, The world became a little less bright on October 13, 2025, with the passing of Charles Edward Welsh. Born on October 4, 1943, in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Charle’s unending humor brought joy to everyone around him.

Charles was preceded in death by his mother and father, E.J. & Margie Welsh, daughter, April Welsh Aucoin, granddaughter, Abby Aucoin, and brother, Arlan Welsh.

He was survived by his wife of 59 years, Corney Welsh, daughters Tiffany Welsh and Marty McKinney Sollie, grandchildren, Beau Villarreal, Lacy Welsh, Hope Aucoin and Gracie Aucoin; and sister Ann Merrill. He also had many nieces and nephews that he loved being around when he could.

Charles was very active, whether it was bowling, tennis, pickleball, woodworking, making belts, counted cross stitching, and walking. He started playing tennis in the 70’s with his wife, being partners for local, state, and national tournaments. Pickleball became their next love in 2004, leading to many people getting to meet him and play with his “no dinking” style. He hit just as hard on the pickleball court as he did with tennis. Charles and Corney got back into bowling after he retired from a 36 year career as a locomotive engineer, and they both played in 2 leagues at All Star Lanes.

His favorite teams – LSU and Central High School. Fridays you would see him watching Swamp People while watching CHS play football on his phone. He watched everything LSU, so we all knew not to get in his way of the TV during football season.

He was the Central High School tennis coach for 4 years when his daughter played, bowling coach for All Star Saturdays youth league, and the “Bowling Pappy” for CHS for the past 9 years.

A celebration of life for Charles’s life will take place at the Blackwater United Methodist Church, 10000 Blackwater Rd, Baker, LA 70714, on October 25, 2025, from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m (open time to visit). Charles wanted people to just come, hang out, and snack (he loved food). In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the family to be donated to the CHS bowling team that he was very involved with, and we will also have a food drive at the church for anyone to donate items if able.
