In loving memory of Charles Chuck Alfred Barber, Jr.
Born May 24, 1949 to Charles A. and Wilma Wall Barber in Baton Rouge.
He is a graduate of La. School for the Deaf 1969 and Gaullaudet University in Washington, D. C. 1973. While living in Baton Rouge, he worked for the La. School for the Deaf and Bourque Printing. On April 6, 1990 he married Amy Lozell and they moved to New Smyrna Beach, Fl in 1991. On, Sunday, March 31, 2013, he passed away at his home in New Smyrna Beach under the care of his wife, Amy, Vitas Hospice and his best friend, Robert Walk.
He was the chairman of the American Sign Language Interpreter Training Program and a wellknown American Sign Language instructor at Daytona State College, Daytona Beach, FL. He was a long time member of the Baton Rouge Assoc. of the Deaf and Greater Daytona Beach Assoc. of the Deaf, of which he was President from 1997 2011. He was actively involved in the Florida Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf, the Southeast Florida Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf and the Florida Assoc. of the Deaf.
He attended Ariel Messianic Congregation in Orange City, FL with his wife. He was a gentile convert, committed to observing the entire Bible and emphasizing the Torah as a true identity. He believed he was grafted into and securely rooted in the finished work of the Messiah Yeshua.
Mr. Barber is survived by his wife, Amy, and 7 children Ryan Barber, John Barber and Kristy Barber along with 4 step children, Donna Shelton, Scott Gaskin, Adrienne Gorham and Gordon Hogg. He was also the proud grandfather of amazing grandchildren, Michael, Olivia, Zoe, Jagger, Nicolas, Sara, Noah, Kassidy, Tyler, Emily, and Katelyn. He is also survived by his sister, Charlotte Barber Melius, her husband, Harold, and their 2 children, Clifford and Marcia.
The service will be held on Friday, April 5, 2013, at the Ascension Funeral Home, 426 W. New River St., Gonzales, LA 70737. Visitation will be from noon until the service at 2 p.m. Burial will be in the Wall Family Cemetery in Prairieville, LA which is on Wall Cemetery Road off La. Hwy 431. The service will be conducted by Revs. Arnold Austin and Mike Ferguson. Following the service, a reception will be held at the home of Beverly Wall Dupre, Mr. Barbers cousin. Her home is very near the cemetery.
