Cecil A. Nickens

A retired boilermaker, security officer and funeral assistant, he died at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 24, 2008, at the Butterfly Wing of Ollie Steele Burden Manor. He was 72 and a resident and native of Galvez. Visiting at Ascension Funeral Home formerly Welsh Funeral Home, Gonzales, on Sunday, Jan. 27, from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Visiting at Little Prairie Baptist Church, Galvez, on Monday, Jan. 28, from 9 a.m. until religious service at 10 a.m., conducted by the Dr. Thomas Ayo. Interment in Carpenter's Chapel Cemetery, Galvez. He is survived by his wife, Barbara Butler Nickens; three daughters, Gwendolyn Nickens McLaurin, Brenda Faye Nickens and Karen Nickens Roberts; a son, Don Allen Nickens; three sisters, Verna McGuire, Alice Ayo and Bessie Smith; a brother, Jim Nickens; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and four brothers. He was an ordained Baptist minister for 40 years. Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Baton Rouge, 9063 Siegen Lane, Suite A, Baton Rouge, LA 70810.
