Barney Joseph Neal Sr., fondly known as Papa to his grandchildren, peacefully passed away on June 20th, 2024, at the age of 75. Born in Eunice, LA on November 29th, 1948, Barney's life was characterized by love, laughter, and unwavering dedication.
Barney is reunited in death with his beloved wife, Barbara Jean Allen Neal, his parents Robert Marvin Neal and Anna Lee Thibodeaux, and his brothers, James Neal and Dale Neal. He proudly served his country as a Seaman in the US Navy during the Vietnam War, embodying bravery and honor.
Left to cherish his memory are his sisters, Stephanie Pitre, Debroh Hedrick, and Phyliss Rambo, his children Kristel Duncan Neal Hawkins, Kelly Neal Pittman, Barney Joseph Neal Jr., and stepson Edward Duncan. He adored his grandchildren Mckenzie Hawkins Miller, Sydnee Hawkins, Erin Pittman, Taylor Pittman, Conner Neal, and his great-grandchildren Rustin and Rye Miller.
Barney was a man of many passions; he found joy in music, possessed an exemplary work ethic as a Certified Welding Inspector until his retirement in 2011 due to failing eyesight, and had a knack for humor that brightened the lives of those around him. His children remember him not only as a provider but as a constant source of love and laughter.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the compassionate staff of Flannery Oaks Guest House and Life Source Hospice for their exceptional care and support during Barney's final days.
A celebration of Barney Joseph Neal Sr.'s life will be held at Ascension Funeral Home in Gonzales, Thursday, June 27, 2024, at 11:00am. The visitation will be from 9:00 am until 11:00 am. Burial will follow at 1:00 pm at Louisiana National Cemetery in Zachary with military honors.
Barney's legacy of kindness, humor, and hard work will continue to inspire and comfort all who knew him. "He will be remembered for his love, his laughter, and the countless memories that will forever live on in our hearts."
