Alice Nickens Johnson Devall Ayo, age 88, born on November 13, 1927 in Lake, LA, passed away peacefully on September 24, 2016, at 5:55 a.m. at Robertsdale Healthcare Center, in Robertsdale, AL. She was a resident of Prairieville, LA. Visitation will be at Ascension Baptist Church, 13432 Airline Hwy., Gonzales, LA, on Wednesday, September 28, 2016, from 1:00 p.m. until service at 3:00 p.m. conducted by her husband, Dr. Thomas J. Ayo, Rev. Anthony Bellow, and Dr. Robert Lawrence. Burial at Mount Zion Cemetery. Survived by her husband, Dr. Thomas J. Ayo; daughter, Beverly Reynolds and husband, Roy; step daughter, Susan Marie Ayo Haigler and husband, Steve; sister, Bessie Nickens Smith; brother, James "Jim" Nickens; eight grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; and also survived by many nieces and nephews who will cherish her sweet memories. Preceded in death by her former husbands, Rev. John O. Johnson and Charles Devall; son, Orvid Dale Johnson; parents, Newman and Lydia Nickens; sister, Verna Nickens McGuire; and brothers, Hybart, Milbern, Carroll, Wade, and Cecil Nickens. She was a former member of Mount Zion Baptist Church and a member of Ascension Baptist Church. Memorial donations can be made to Ascension Baptist Church Building Fund.
